Noteheads micro-placement in Dorico 3.5

Hi !

I am trying to move note head within two lines of the staff, with the position of the top notehead slightly altered between each line. Any idea of how can I archive the top note situation (see imgur photo) in Dorico 3.5?

Can i do this in dorico? - Album on Imgur

Thanks so much for your help !

Welcome to the forum. I can’t think of a way to accomplish this, I’m afraid.

That doesn’t mean there isn’t one, but if there is, it’s not immediately obvious.

Welcome to the forum, Martin. I’m afraid I can’t think of a way to do this, either, because you cannot adjust the vertical position of noteheads, even in Engrave mode.

You could create custom noteheads with varying y-values, like “diamond notehead (+1/8 sp)”, “diamond notehead (+1/4 sp)”, “diamond notehead (-1/8 sp)”, “diamond notehead (-1/4 sp)”. These four noteheads should cover the notes in this image.

EDIT: You actually only need one quarter-space offset note because that’s exactly the midpoint between two adjacent diatonic notes (which are a half-space apart). The magic numbers to plug into the Edit Notehead dialog are:

  • Y offset: 0.5 units per 1/8 sp.
  • Y Stem up SE: 0.125 units per 1/8 sp.
  • Y Stem up NW: 0.125 units per 1/8 sp.
