NotePerformer 4 Released

I fully understand, though it is a shame. I’m sure in due course it will be possible to add this functionality.

All the Cine Series and Cinematic Studio Series libraries can be used individually with the playback engine. You don’t need to own all of them. The exception is CineBrass which requires both CineBrass Pro and CineBrass Core since we draw from both solo and section legato patches.

From the “Add instruments” screen you can hide any libraries you don’t have by clicking the library labels in the header. Your configuration is preserved as you close/open NPPE. Please see my screenshot.

Can I ask if you’re using a higher sample rate than 44100 Hz?

We don’t currently support flautando because there’s no fallback articulation in NotePerformer so we can’t detect it.

Cuivre is employed automatically when the dynamics calls for it.

This is good news. Thank you very much!

that’s helpful. In that case I’ll just try increasing the dynamic in this situation.

It would not be uncommon for sample libraries.

Samples may be cached at the level of the VST3.

Also, during a program’s operation, your operating system may move memory as it sees fit between physical RAM and your hard drive (virtual memory). Virtual memory is slower. So the preload of a sample library may also be on the hard drive if the operating system decides so.

That should work.

The only limitation is there’s no crossfade from/to cuivre and the ordinary patch, so BBCSO hairpins in that territory may fall back to changing volume, not timbre.

Could we consider it if we create a technique manually in Dorico ? (For flautando and portamento)

I’ve found with the BBC Core in general natively that performance is poor for about a minute or so after which it improves – have never really understood why. This is a bit less the case with NPPE whether occasional performance issues remain in congested sections.

It’s more complicated because expression maps need all combination articulations, e.g., “flautando+staccato, flautando+accent, flautando+staccato+accent,” etc.

listen to this. I added your screenshot to my earlier dorico file and with the BBCSO Core, the first note of your scales gets squeezed… I’ve experienced it occationally over the last few days. It does not happen when NPPE is muted…

This is unintentional.

The slurs in a sample library have semi-random timing delays in the 50 to 300 milliseconds range. Adding to that complexity, the timing isn’t constant for many libraries but depends on your playing speed. Without NPPE, few, if any, slurred notes would be on time.

We have statistical models to alleviate these problems in the library, but they don’t have a 100% hit rate. The only solution I can think of is manually adjusting those notes in Play View.

If you mute NPPE it’s played by NotePerformer, which is a synthesizer. The timing is exact but the timbre isn’t. A sample library is the other way around, the timbre is exact but not the consistency in time and dynamics.

Yes, thanks, I know the basics, but it just struck me as a bit odd. The other times I’ve noticed it, it is always happening to the FIRST note of a bar, be it fast or slow…

It’s because the first note is an entirely different type of sample. It has a slow bowed attack and is very difficult for a machine to align in time with a slur.

It could also be a dynamic boundary issue. Can I ask how it sounds if you increase and decrease the dynamics one step with the same passage?

You should be able to just drop an mp3 file into the box where you’re typing the reply, in the same way as for an image; or use the Upload button.

it happens with all dynamics. However, I replaced the slot with Core VIOLINS 2 - and the problem is gone!! (Thank god sample libraries aren’t human  )

That’s great to hear. For the record, you can quickly change the order of Violins 1/2 from NPPE, using the “Move up” and “Move down” actions that appear when you have more than one of an instrument.

Is this feature from a newer version of NPPE? I currently don’t have that option.
