Well this is exciting isn’t it? I’m preloading BBCSO Pro at the moment. There were one or two issues I was having with NPPE4 I’d be interested to see if they’re resolved.
Hi everyone!
I’m going to wait. Right now, Noteperformer 4.5.1 does everything I need it to do, and it sounds wonderful with my BBCSO and VSL libraries. What I was hoping for in 5.0 was a playback engine for a choir library or two. I suppose a power-user (one who likes going under the hood) could build one now, but that’s not something I feel confident about doing. So, I’ll just wait a while for Arne to get most of the bugs out, and then I’ll make the leap.
Mike
Am I right that even though we can route to the Dorico mixer, we can’t use Live Stage? Not a biggie, but I just want to make sure.
FWIW, BBCSO pre-load takes up 1.5 Gb of disk space.
Iconica Sketch (plus Olympus Choir) is 725 Mb.
Berlin Free takes up only 159 Mb.
… but I’m really looking forward to making engines for other libraries I have in the HALion, SINE … and ARIA Players!
Am I wrong or this entire procedure seems to be a hack? Aren’t subtleties in the sample libraries licenses that prevent this kind of sample-scraping operations from the Vsts itself running believing they are yielding audio?
NP does not scrape the audio in order use the samples themselves. NP only saves metadata about the samples so it can later use the correct samples at the correct times.
That was fast!
We only locally freeze a subset of samples, and those are compressed, encrypted and hardware locked. You still need the original VST3 library installed at all times, including license devices such as iLok.
Hi Arne,
I’m getting some strange playback with BBCSO core - cello notes are fading, starting about half way through.
Two Resolutions-403 - 10_Violoncello - Dancing with Life and Death, Part 1.dorico.zip (2.1 MB)
There are problems at letter E.
I’m attaching an mp3 on Google Drive, just in case everything sounds fine for you! Have a listen at around 3.07 and onwards.
Also, when the divisi a 2 starts at around 4.30, everything sound strange in a way that’s hard to describe, to my ears at least.
Has the vibrato rendition on the Spitfire solo strings violin 1 changed? If so, it doesn’t sound right! If not, my ears are at fault.
Edit: In fact, a lot of things are sounding very strange. I’ve added some more reverb, but things are still sounding wrong.
Many thanks
Rich
Thanks for the clarification. Not that I do not like this kind of developer things but it seems a bit “hacky”, crossing the normal library/application boundaries.
Thank you so much! This is worth it just for the removal of unnecessary channels! That was an issue with the work I’m currently composing.
Before (which is how it was with NP4):
Current (NP5):
Makes things much clearer for me. I do have GPO5 from my Finale days and had combined GPO5 with NP3 or NP4 in some cases, so I’ll be curious to see how the GPO5 playback engine works now in NP5 should I need it. Much appreciated!
Can you go a bit into details regarding Sample Dev’s TOS and this procedure? I have to admit I don’t fully understand what is going on under the hood but I feel like there might be a conflict with what the TOS of some Sample Devs allow.
Would you be willing to share the ARIA NPPE? There’s still some life in GPO5
Your GPO5 Template is great, by the way.
Never mind. Just saw the GPO5 Engine in NP5
So far, it consists of a Flute and a Violin that doesn’t work properly! But give it time.
Thanks. I really appreciate your work-and willingness to share
I was wondering the same thing, since this could fall under restrictions against “resampling”.
I’m grateful the Tam-Tam now defaults to large gong
I’m wondering if we’re able to add different percussion instruments in the NPPEs? That is, different sounding snares, different sized cymbals and triangles and whatnot. I remember previously you pretty much had only one option for each. Hoping that has been addressed!
Well, since we had to pay for not only Noteperformer, but also extra for each NPPE engine, and these are now free to new purchasers, I don’t feel to badly about it. This new version is incredible, though!
