I’m trying to export an arrangement into an MP3. I use Dorico 6 with NotePerformer.
The issue is, it is only exporting one instrument, in this case, violin 1. I am trying to export the full flow. I tried exporting players as separate files, and everything was violin 1.
What layout is open when you export the audio. Whereas older versions of Dorico would only export audio of the layout at the top of the layout list (in the right column), newer versions export the sound from the active layout displayed on the screen.
(Can we assume all the instruments sound when you play the score in Dorico? If not, you may need to reassign the Playback Template from the Play menu.)
I do not know what the issue is Here. I’ve been changing settings left and right, but it only exports one instrument. I made sure the full score was the active layout on Everything.
Hi @Elwin_Raffins , do you happen to work on a Mac? Then you might run into a famous caching issue on OSX or iTunes; it goes along this way:
You export an audio file from Dorico and play it back in Music/iTunes and while reading and playing the audio stream, it keeps a private cache of it. If you then export some different audio to the same audio file and play it back, you will still hear the old audio from the cache file. So in this case try to export to a different file name. Or use a different media player, one that does not keep a cache (e.g. VLC [open source]) of the played audio.
I do use a mac. I doubt it’s a cache issue, because when I email the file, it plays the same audio problem (only one instrument playing) from the media player of the destination computer.
Then please go to the Play mode where in the lower pane the faders of the mixer are shown. During export you will see during export the meterings flickering for all channels that are active in that moment. Does that match with the sound experience of the exported file?
Note Performer has an own mixer which for each NP instance, mixes down the 16 instruments to one stereo signal which gets routed to the Dorico mixer. So if you have 2 NP instances, Dorico only shows 2 return channels for them. This has always been the case and did never change over the last years.
Hi @Elwin_Raffins , could you please send me an example project of what you experience?
it does not need to be a full project, just a few bars is enough. Please send to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de
Since NotePerformer 5, there is an option in the noteperformer menu (top left corner of the NP mixer, there’s a menu): use separate outputs (heavier on CPU) which sends each NP instrument to the corresponding fader in Dorico.
