In some cases there are keyboard shortcuts available to hide things from write mode. Accidentals, noteheads, and stems specifically. These commands are also accessible from the jumpbar.

Some things (like time signatures) can be hidden with the show/hide item command.

Is there a reason that the different categories disappear in the lower zone engrave mode based on what you have selected?

what’s left are the options common to everything you’ve selected.

It is extremely time consuming to be switching between writing and engraving mode every time I need these tools

agreed, it’s also highly inconsistent in regards to which things can be hidden in Write Mode, and which can be hidden only in Engrave Mode.

I’d rather have all the tools where I expect them to be, all the time.

that’s the MuseScore approach - you’ll get the full range of opinions here on whether that’s a good thing.

In the meantime you could do worse than copy the approach to filter shortcuts given here Difficulty selecting notes in a chord - #14 by MarcLarcher - this has lowered my stress levels considerably
