Nuendo 13 - Can not import any video files (DNxHD, ProRes, Mp4!)

Hi there,

I am struggling again with another deadline and Nuendo 13.0.50 318 on Windows 11 64bit professional with all latest patches.

I thought I would switch back from Reaper to Nuendo permanently as I was frustrated by Reaper, but now I remember why I moved to Reaper.

Reaper loads video files without any issue at all. Consistently - across versions and years.

Nuendo 13.0.50 build 318

  1. I have launched Nuendo as an admin to ensure no file issues.
  2. I had a preset I have been using for years in Handbrake for
    conversions because it worked.
  3. Thinking perhaps something changed I have followed the guidelines on Steinbergs website for conversion settings for H.264 again and updated the preset… - MP4 H.264 - Would not load
  4. I have tried converting with a different converter: Shutter Encoder
  5. I have tried switching to ProREs - wouldn’t load
  6. I have tried switching to DNxHD - wouldn’t load

I tried Reaper
MP4 H.264 - loaded!
ProREs - - loaded!
DNxHD - - loaded!

I returned to Nuendo
All formats again Would Not Load

Copied the project onto a thumb drive and brought it over to my personal computer which is Win 10 64bit. I used Nuendo REcently there.

Opening the project Nuendo 13 Freezes… (I literally just created this project and have 13 audio files on the default track with nothing else nor had I done anything further than opening the project and importing wav files)

If Dev Team is reading this - I would say the amount of struggles I have had with Video and Nuendo is Nuendo’s weakest point and it’s core point.

Sure I am doing something weird but perhaps you guys could provide a video converter that just works?
OR partner with a converter software provider and borrow their back end to auto convert into the format Nuendo needs.
OR provide presets with Nuendo for these converters to import.

The video codecs (except dnxhd) all work well on my Mac Studio - OS Monterey. What machine are you working with?

Same here in Windows. No problem with h264 or prores. You need to pay for DNxHD.

maybe it’s all about frame rate of the video

Maybe try starting Nuendo temporarily with factory settings at startup (hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift at launch) and then re-test video import. Something may have become corrupted in your preferences settings.

If you are trying to import video on existing video track, check if video tracked is locked, there is a lock button in video inspektor track.
