Nuendo 15 Issue- Mac. Essential Macro No Longer Works

I use the attached macro to replace audio with room tone. Got it from @Fredo years ago, and it has served me well. Until today, when I bought N15 and tried it out. Instant crash when I use the key command. Macro runs incompletely when I hit “Run Macro”. Have not run other macros yet, but this one is essential to my workflow. I have Command/Shift/Option/V programmed to my mouse wheel click.

Hoping somebody out there may have some ideas– I will not be able to use N15 like this unless there is some kind of functional workaround.

Did something change in the macro module? Help!

Do you have to make a selection first, where you want to replace audio and why change grid types? maybe the cue of the grid types changed…

The macro looks rather unsuspicious.
Can you upload the crash file here? (.ips on Mac, .dmp on Windows)

What happens if you perform the steps of the macro manually one by one? Does Nuendo also crash? At which step?

Yes, the selection is made with the range tool. I work in shuffle mode, but the macro works in grid mode, hence the switching inside the macro.

The issue is two-fold. Clicking the mouse wheel, which has been assigned the macro key command, does nothing in N15– I get the “hand” grabber icon. When I attempt to re-assign the key command by clicking the mouse wheel in the Key Commands macro window= crash.

Secondary issue is the incomplete (or improper) running of the macro when I DON’T use the key command, and I end up with the locators set at the range I was trying to replace… but no actual results from the macro.

Has worked flawlessly from about N3 through N14.

I will look and see if the function nomenclature has changed. But that still won’t explain the weird wheel click behavior…

Please see attached!

I will have to check that out later today… am working (on N14) on a looming deadline.

Very much appreciate the attention here! This is baffling. I will have more time to troubleshoot after the weekend… and appreciate all suggestions.

@Martin.Jirsak

I have not given up on this issue. I think we’re getting closer to being able to call it a bug, as I just saw a Cubase user’s post about messed up presets. Have tried minimal troubleshooting: running Onyx, starting in Safe Mode, opening Nuendo without my prefs, all with the same result. Will probably attempt a full reinstall later tonight.

@TimoWildenhain : I’m sorry to tag you on this, but I just want to make sure that you guys know about this problem. Without being dramatic or hyper-reactive, I literally will not be able to work with N15 as it is now. Will have to (if it will even work) retool several macros and key commands, and even that has been a problem thus far (see crash report earlier in the thread).

I’m not happy–but also not tremendously worried. N15 just came out, and I have faith that the issues described here and elsewhere will ultimately be dealt with.

But until that happens… it’s a drag!

And in the spirit of exploration… just trashed prefs and rebuilt. The issue endures. No difference.

I am wondering if anybody else is having these issues-- it is confounding.

For what it’s worth, I’m on Sequoia; haven’t switched up to Tahoe yet. Maybe my abundance of caution is getting in the way here?

In any case, Nuendo 15 continues to be a virtual doorstop for me here. I simply can’t use it with my long-established workflow as it is.

Trying hard not to whine about this-- but would love to get some sort of informed perspective. @Martin.Jirsak ?

Thanks…

Well… considering nobody else seemed to be having this problem, and in lieu of hearing back from anybody from Steinberg, I dug back in after installing the maintenance release yesterday.

The problem endured through the update. Then I went to my mouse settings-- I use a Razer Naga Hyperspeed (which, since I’m on a Mac, means I have to use third-party software, Steermouse out of Japan–Razer’s Mac software simply does not work with this particular mouse) Checked the settings, and everything looked good, and as previously noted, all was fine on N14. Tried re-assigning my macro key command to the same combination and as before, Nuendo15 crashed every time.

So…I tried running the macro on its own–which did NOT work before the update-- and it did what it was supposed to do (phew). So I then changed the key command for “wheel click” (my shortcut for inserting room tone) in the Steermouse app… and:

I am happily (so far) using Nuendo 15.

Relieved, and hope that others do not have to deal with this sort of mystery. It still doesn’t make sense to me (no coder am I), but I am glad things are working.

FYI,
