Nuendo 15 UI freezes every ~7 seconds in large post sessions (not happening in Nuendo 14)

Hi all,

I’m experiencing what seems like a bug in Nuendo 15 when working on larger post-production sessions.

EDIT: It only happens when the video track visibility is enabled so perhaps it has to do with thumbnails. I did try to manually generate thumbnail cache file from the Pool with no luck. The good news is that when the video track is hidden I have no issues.

When navigating around the session (scrolling, zooming, selecting events, etc.), the interface consistently hangs every ~7 seconds. The freeze lasts for about 4 seconds each time, making the software very difficult to use.

Important details:

  • This does not happen in Nuendo 14 with the same session

  • The issue appears only in larger sessions (post work with video)

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Turning Hi-DPI on and off

  • Enabling/disabling “Interpolate Waveforms”

  • Using a lower-resolution video file

  • Using Quick zoom

System info:

  • OS: Windows 11

  • GPU: AMD RX 6600

  • Video codec: ProRes

None of the above has made any difference.

Removing the video from the session makes the issue dissapear

Has anyone else experienced similar behavior in Nuendo 15?
Could this be related to video engine changes or GPU acceleration?

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Odd one - I’m not experiencing that and i’m on a similar system and working with very large projects. I do get a bit of delay on Marker inserts and slight delay when opening up automation lanes, and few others thing when things get large, but there has been a decent improvement in general speed with large projects now in N15 for me. I would look into graphic card update or reinstall first. Also I assume the project came from N14 so might slight descrepency there with third party plugs. Latest windows update maybe as well.

Yes, I’ve made sure to update everything, gpu, windows, chipset and so on.

I also have a graphics issue with certain third party plugins, something also happening in N14, a lag when opening and closing plugin windows - i think maybe it has something to do with OpenGL (I think I’ve read something on the forum about it).

I think I’ve found a workaround

When I hide the videotrack in the visibility settings I have no issues. Perhaps it has to do with thumbnails? Will try to look into it. I don’t really need to see the video track that often, as long as I can see the video. I did buy the DNxHr plugin at some point not really knowing if I needed it. Perhaps it can interfere?

EDIT: When I disable thumbnails from the video track the issue dissapears. Weird.

Any suggestions?
