Nuendo 15 World Premiere - March 19, 2026 - 6PM CET

I hear you, I also used to happily use Nuendo for Ambisonics/Atmos work but, progressively, It became as if Steinberg had lost interest in the field.

And the likes of us can complain (and many have), they just get ignored time and time again.

You’re right, let’s wait for the final reveal and see if Steinberg has addressed any of these issues but, in my case and in the context of immersive audio mixing, REAPER is now my DAW of choice (clunky UI or not) and Nuendo would have to win me back.

These things are always easier said than done, I’m sure if they could just drop these changes in - they would. Changing anything, even small stuff, opens a spider web of variables to consider.

But also, complaints in this thread are based off an advanced preview… I wouldn’t want to discourage future advanced previews… It’s a week away from release, so I’d wait till then and then bump/post your feature request threads with some emphasis if the changes you need aren’t in.

THIS PART!!!:face_with_steam_from_nose:

Just a quick NO to subscription! I’ve bought the updates to 13 and 14 but I’m still using 12….and computer willing I can use it till it doesn’t work on Win 16 or whatever it will be called  Buying something once you own for virtually forever but have to pay for updates, subscribe and you never own it…ever!

I wish I could buy Photoshop outright…I don’t need new thingies every week, just a great photo editor!

There was a big backlash when Pro Tools went subscription only, which forced Avid to bring back perpetual licenses as an option. I’m just stating a fact. Options are fine - but forcing a subscription only model would be a problem for many people.

People talk about having Cubase as the test bed, and Nuendo being the final product.

I take it a step further, I often hang back from using the latest version of Nuendo, which is currently V13, and I only recently updated to V14, and the stability improvements are massive (as was the case from V12 to V13).

If I can’t remain on a prior version and I have to keep paying monthly, fees, then the latest offering would have to be quite compelling, for me to want to keep paying month-to-month, even when I use the software every day.

The moral of this story is, if Steinberg are going to offer subscriptions, it has to be implemented in a wholly conscious way, so that user choice is the ultimate outcome.

There are a great number of people using Steinberg DAW’s that also use other DAW’s, and if their favourite program, i.e., Cubase or Nuendo; is currently bugged or lacks certain features, then users should not be penalised for not wanting to be on the latest version.

Exactly!

Cubendo has a fabulous and commited user base who are oftentimes going the extra mile to help improve Cubase. Steinberg would spare everyone so much frustration by simply communicating with its users. The Dorico team is a beacon of light in that respect.

By ignoring the userbase, discussions on bugs and issues grow fastly out of proportion. This will and is reflected in each and every single AI generated answer. In other words, bad marketing for Cubendo. Nobody wants that. Looking at the long-term reputation damage caused by silence it might be a good idea to reassign at least a couple of hours per week/month to that task.

Why do Cubendo teams rarely communicate with their userbase @TimoWildenhain? It would be nice to hear an answer on that one. Wouldn’t it be a win/win for everyone?
BTW, I think there’s no DAW who could wish for a more loyal userbase than Cubendo :folded_hands:.

I would posit, that some things are so complex, and require analysis, and even acknowledging that there is a problem, can mean that expectations may become unrealistic.

haha….. Windows 11 was released five years ago. That means Windows 16 around the year 2050. Your today computer should be fine

I actually built my computer a few years ago…i9 12900k, TB4, dual LAN, 128gb Ram, 6gb Video Card, 2 SSD(1tb for Windows and programs, 2tb for audio projects) and 4 internal SATA and 1 external HD…18tb right now but I can add 2 more NVME SSD or 1 more NVME SSD and 4 more SATA

I’m good to go for a while

*Edited to change from 10tb to 18tb…10tb is internal

Yes, I understand that. However, it would mean the world to some users if Steinberg would just say that they look into it but can’t promise anything or give an estimate due to the complexity of the issue. Or that it’s not on the priority list any time soon. It’s a matter of being heard.
Everything is better than silence, isn’t it?

I actually think the reason people soured on Avid was two-fold.

First of all they switched over from TDM to HDX, and in the process users got stuck either on TDM with I think v10 being the last version, or they’d have to pay a hefty chunk to upgrade. And in the process of this some people who had some extra software package got extra shafted. It got real expensive real quick.

Then they introduce subscriptions and “sort of” got rid of perpetual, just not really. And that put a lot of users in a tricky spot financially, i.e. it got even more expensive.

So for many users that didn’t have any good options it just, well, sucked.

However, I would actually argue that it didn’t end up all that bad and that it was primarily that first shift from TDM to HDX that was extra painful, and then licensing policies that kept changing (lack of predictability is annoying).

Anyway, no love for Avid from me.

Yeah, I mean, it’s 2026, surely smart people can come up with an equation that works for most users.

Personally, I have been on the Avid monthly plan on and off for a few years as needed except for last year when I got a yearly subscription. This is all quite expensive, but it allows me to pay when my work requires it and when it doesn’t I don’t have to pay.

Now, currently I do need it, because as I will keep on pointing out until things change I need it (or something else) because Nuendo won’t import AAFs that Pro Tools have no problem with. So to me at least I’d rather pay a subscription fee for a Nuendo that does what I want rather than a Nuendo that doesn’t.

And by the way, I have no idea why a semi-annual feature release schedule would require a subscription. If anything the problem would surely be that more money is needed, no? I mean, why subscription for twice the releases?

Having a perpetual that includes all updates for a year and then stays at that level makes sense to me. Having a subscription that keeps updating to the latest version and ceases to be active when you stop paying makes sense to me. And effectively combining the two into a subscription of an update plan of a perpetual license arguably makes even more sense. Buy the perpetual license, pay for an update-subscription plan which keeps you up-to-date as long as you pay, and once you stop your subscription your version freezes.

I don’t get your statement. Timo or someone DID say all that AND MORE in the Takfat thread.

Does it need to be a sticky? Do people not remember the post?

Amazingly…..even after sb laid out the challenges….the acknowledgment of what could be better….the indeterminable amount of time progress in various areas will take….the realities of the VARIED type of users sb caters to with Cubendo…..coupled with the fact that x percentage of the usebase has ZERO issues day to day….coupled with the tremendous respect sb has for its users……..even after all THAT IN ONE POST…..I swear it was no more than 6 days later that someone posted….”hey sb, any update on all this?”

My gawd, I’m glad I don’t run a forum….I remember around 12 years ago, there was some guy giving Justin (Reaper/Cuckos owner) a ton of flak (on GS as I remember) about Reaper’s underlying code being substandard and the reason the gui would always suck no matter what Justin and his five guys might try to do about it.

Now….I’ll never be a Reaper user, but I’ll say….Justin (who already didn’t need the money)….after a few back & forth responses to the guy….FINALLY …simply told the guy in very clear English, to go f…..well….it was even more colorful  And then Justin stomped off, never to return to GS. His attitude was essentially “it’s my product….you don’t like it…go somewhere else”. I found Justin’s comments MOST refreshing :). Lotta respect for his attitude that day

I’d be equally snarky if I owned a forum I’m sure

Yeah, I followed that thread. I was not referring to a specific topic - it is the general lack of communication when it comes to longstanding or serious issues where users are left on their own for weeks, months, or even years. This results in frustration and threads being unnecessarily blowing out of proportion. AI generated answer will take these threads into account and many people take AI slop as truth. Of course, noone expects immediate statements on every single issue.

Haha, yes, you can’t help but wonder…

As a user you got at least the ignore list as final resort  And I am very grateful to have it and not having to deal with all trolls/ignorants if I don’t want to. Again, I was making a general point here.

Yes, I’d rather they implement a price increase to help with their development cost than a subscription, for the reasons mentioned earlier.

I’m not convinced by this model since, as I mentioned earlier, Fender already implemented in Studio One and it ended up being basically the same as before. That said, if it comes to that, this would be better than a forced subscription model.

Thanks for the response Timo. I didn’t mean to sound harsh, but, yes if a subscription model would mean a more communicative dev team and features/bugs being improved on throughout the year, it could be the solution.

Just as an example, there’s an ongoing graphics bug in Nuendo/Cubase for those of us on macOS Tahoe. This was highlighted back November on the Cubase forum. I myself went down the rabbit hole for months trying to figure it out. Any 3rd party plugin GUI I open makes the entire system sluggish. It doesn’t affect Ableton, Bitwig, Logic or Reaper. I guess it is my fault for updating the OS, but there is zero communication or acknowledgement on whether this will be fixed or is being worked on. It’s been a painful 3 months for me.

Similarly, there is a ‘Built-in’ soundcard bug on the M-series Macs, where you can’t select it in the connections window, reported all the way back in 2021.

I guess Apple is at fault here for changing their systems.

Then, as others have mentioned, AAF and ARA bugs, all of which we use daily and affect us.

In the end, I guess, more communication is all we’re asking for at this point and there are a lot of features in Nuendo that I truly appreciate, so I don’t even have an alternative for it. Hope you guys can come up with a solution. Thanks!

This is my fear with subscription models as well. Companies decide to go the subscription route and then still deliver the bare minimum. However, the version freezing option @MattiasNYC mentioned seems to be fine. Bitwig runs a similar model, where if I don’t like the features or don’t need them, I stop paying and stay on the previous version.

Ableton, while not subscription, has been killing it lately with incremental updates to every 0.x version.

That seems to be the only logical thing to do, and if not, then there is plenty of choice DAW, wise; not that those choices will necessarily suffice but this talk about subscription pricing is unsettling to say the least.

That’s a good model almost rent to own
