Nuendo license switched to "grace period eligible"

Hi,
I just made routine maintanance on my elicenser and I got a message saying my Nuendo 11 license is now changed to “Nuendo 11 grace period eligible” (and now it shows up like that on the elicenser panel) What does that mean?

Grace period means your license can be updated for free to the latest Release.

thank you! What if I update to N13? Will I still be able to run N11 on this machine?
I mean, can I just update the license and not install N13 on my old Mojave Imac?
sorry if it’s a dumb question

Yes, there won’t be any changes to your N11. Just the license on the dongle will be marked as “updated to Steinberg Licensing” and can’t be updated again. You can also use N13 in parallel to N11 on the same machine if you like.
It’s not a dumb question, btw.

So I am about to buy Nuendo 13, but I understand Nuendo 14 is just around the corner.
I am curious, are updates free for Nuendo? I keep reading about this “Grace Period”

The grace period is just for situations like yours: If you buy a new Steinberg product within a certain period of the new one coming out, usually it is like 4 weeks but sometimes longer, they’ll give you a free upgrade to the new version when it does. That way you don’t buy something and then get screwed because a new version came out a week later.

So if you buy Nuendo 13 now, you’ll get a free upgrade to a Nuendo 14 license when it launches in a month or so.

In general though, updates are not free. While you’d get a free update to 14, you wouldn’t get a free update to 15, you’d have to pay for that. Like when 14 comes out I’ll have to pay for it, since I bought Nuendo 13 over a year ago.

The grace period is just to protect people when there’s an update coming soon.

Copy.

Now, I have the 60 day Nuendo free trial, should I wait until my trial ends to buy? Is there any advantage or limitation to using the trial? (Not so far that I can tell but I am very new, just switched from using FL Studio since before time began.

Does anyone know if there is an exact expected date for the release of 14?

Yes, Nuendo 14 should be coming soon. If you would rather be “safe” than “sorry”, you should wait until the new version is released if that’s the version you want. No official release date has been announced, and Steinberg is free to change the grace period policy at any time.

Edit: Wow, same time posting! :grinning:

The trial is a fully functioning version.

Steinberg has a history of never announcing release dates.

Within the same release cycle, yes. When a major version is released, you can update at a discounted price.

Thanks Scab, I appreciate your responses.
Happy Holidays
