Anyone else experience this: Sometimes when I insert a title page in a part via the page template change function, it moves the start of the music to the second page and uses the default page template on page 2. Other times, it maintains the FIRST page template on page 2. In neither case do I see any kind of page override or green bar above the second page indicating anything is different from the default behavior.
Am I missing something? This has happened within the same project on different parts.
The second option applies the First page template only to the first flow and if the music starts on page 1.
The third option applies the First page template to all flows which start at top of page.
Both options don’t show a green bar in the Pages overview in the right zone.
To apply the First page template only to the first flow beginning on page 2 or later you have to insert an explicit page template change – which will display the green bar.
Thanks, and yes, I do know this setting. But the issue I’ve had occurs regardless of this setting. To be clear: There is only one flow. All part layouts show the first page template at the start. I use “change page template” to create a title page on page 1. Sometimes, page 2 becomes the default page; sometimes it becomes a first page template. Neither shows the green bar. In order to force the first page template to show when it does not automatically, I have to use a page template change, which then of course shows the green bar.
I don’t think I’ve seen this – I’m used to things working as @Vadian describes. If you’ve got a project that doesn’t behave this way, can you post it here?
Go to any of the trombone parts (or any part in which I have not already created a template change for a title page) and insert a page template change on page 1. Then page 2 will become a default page instead of a “first”.
The second option applies the First page template only to the first flow and if the music starts on page 1.
At the moment you insert the page template change the music starts on page 2.
You get the First page template for free if you select the third option (Any flow starting at top of page) but this applies to all flows starting at top of page.
Ah, I see. I must have that selected on some of my templates and not all of them, because I’ve never needed to change this setting until just this week. But regardless, I think that setting could use a little clarification.
@Vadian is right but I understand the confusion. To me this behavior is not at all clear from the description in Layout options. It is described in the manual though:
But with that behavior, it seems to me that this button:
..should actually be named “First page only”, rather than “first flow”. But that might be the language barrier. But rather than changing the description I think it would be neat if this setting would apply the First page template to the page where the first flow actually starts.
