I’ve been using an older M-AUDIO Axiom Air 32 Mini keyboard with Dorico but noticed that it often stops working when using Duration before note input mode. I then have to quit Dorico and re-open Dorico for the MIDI keyboard to work. I also have reconfigured my iMac keyboard to FINALE’s 1/4 note = 5 method. Do you have any suggestions?
Generally speaking, the keyboard sends MIDI messages to the computer (i.e. the OS), and then any application can receive them.
But as ever, if you think there’s a problem with the setup, then crate a diagnostic report and upload it here.
The standard for MIDI over USB has not changed for a very long time. As long as the keyboard talks to your computer, it should be compatible with Dorico. But Dorico can’t detect a keyboard if you plug it in after starting the program, so if there’s a hardware issue (like a faulty plug) which makes you briefly lose connection, you do in fact need to restart Dorico before it works again. This of course has nothing to do with duration-before-pitch mode, let alone which key you’ve set as the quarter-note.
And when folks used to use true MIDI cables (before one end was a USB) there was always the chance that folks might accidentally plug the input cable into the input jack at both ends.
