Omnivocal?

Cubase 15 comes with a beta version of Yamaha’s vocal synth Omnivocal. When will it become compatible with Dorico? I’m surprised that Dorico can’t open a VST that Steinberg supports.

It will probably come something like that or similar in Dorico as well. Exactly what and when?

Remember though that Omnivocal only makes a sound unless you give it information on the text. The text is not entered the ‘normal way’ in Cubase 15 as notes, but as embellishments on the piano roll.

Yes; but this is the first time when all the instruments that come with a Cubase update are not readily available in Dorico. As to the text, obviously Omnivocal should read the syllable for each MIDI note from the lyrics.

I think it’s fair to say we need to give the dev team an opportunity to respond (by which I mean, develop and release Dorico 6.5 or 7). It’s not surprising that the new software has new features not yet available in Dorico.

Omnivocal relies on special, Cubase-specific integration that is not possible with Dorico as things stand. We know that vocal synthesis is an area of interest to many of our users, and we have already made developments in this area to support Cantai (though of course that is not yet readily available). We hope to support other vocal synthesis plug-ins in the future, including Omnivocal, as and when it becomes possible to do so.
