Open String Changes For Natural Harmonics

Hello, I’m having an issue which I think is a bug where when I open a file with a natural harmonic (touched notation) with the open string showing, often times, the open string will switch to a different one than I had intended. I specifically changed the string in the properties panel but it seems to change (thus changing the sounding note). This often also happens when I switch between layouts. Anyone else face this, or anyone have a solution? Or just hope that Dorico fixes this?

Welcome to the forum, @AeroHarmony!

If you have issues like this then it’s most helpful if you can attach some sort of a project. It doesn’t need to be the whole thing; just a bar or two with the issue is fine.

Thanks for reaching out! I’ve attached a file here from the larger piece. Interestingly enough, I can’t seem to recreate the bug in a file that I created from scratch. It seems like in the “Notes and Rests” panel that the “String” slider is sometimes set to “off” even if I placed it in the “on” position and specified which string I want the harmonic to be played on.

I assume the problem relates to the note in b.27 of your score? I’m not sure I understand what problem you’re reporting, but I can see something that could potentially cause an issue… If you swap the harmonic “Type” from “Natural” to “Artificial” you can see there are still some artificial-harmonic properties set (“Style”, “Partial” and “Node”). I think it is possible that if there are both natural- and artificial-harmonic properties on the same note then Dorico’s harmonics calculations will get confused. I would suggest unsetting all the artificial-harmonic properties and then swapping the note back to being a natural harmonic - does that fix your issue?

I’ll try that, thank you!

Unfortunately, this did not work. This is indeed specifically for Violin I in m.27, usually it will switch from sul A to a sul G.

Here it is set to the G string instead of the A string:

Or is that not what you meant?
