What are your suggestions to isolate Bongo drums from a track with a lot of other drum instruments. Generally: How about separating percussion.
Generally, as the first step it’s a good idea to unmix the song into drums and other. Then you can run an unmix drum process on the drum stem to split it into its individual parts. In which stem do the bongos end up?

I so far did what you suggested. The bongos tend to remain with the snare drum mainly. From there on I dont get better results.
then next step might be a good place to try out Select Similar…
obviously different snare drum timbres are likely with every hit, but select similar might help weed thru the majority of the SD hits…it’s worth a try…also, on my machine select similar can take a long, long time to run…15-20mins sometimes for me

Yes, that’s a good idea. Alternatively, you can try to split the snare from the bongo with another stem splitter model. Maybe it will work with either DrumSep, LarsNet or Mega 53-stem on the website mvsep.com
The site can be used for free. There is even a WAV quality option if you create a free user account. But there are usage limits and waiting times. Might still be worth a try to upload your snare/bongo stem there.
I would do it this way:
Create a drum stem with SpectraLayers, use Unmix Song and tick only Drums.
Save that drums stem.
Download the app Restem, https://rebeatapp.com There is a 2 weeks functioning demo.
Run the saved drums stem in that app. It will separate the different components in the drumset (kick, snare, toms, hi-hat, ride, crash, other). The bongos will appear in the ”others” category.
