Option-click does not work anymore since I updated MacOs to 26.5.2

Subject: Option+Click no longer duplicates items after updating to macOS Tahoe 26.5.2

Hello,

I have encountered a reproducible problem after updating my Mac from macOS Tahoe 26.5.1 to 26.5.2.

System

  • Mac mini M4 (Apple Silicon)
  • macOS Tahoe 26.5.2
  • Dorico Pro 6.2.30
  • Apple Magic Mouse
  • French keyboard

Problem

Before updating to macOS 26.5.2, Option + Click worked correctly to duplicate/repeat items in Write mode.

Immediately after updating to macOS Tahoe 26.5.2, Option + Click no longer works.

What I have tested

  • Reinstalled Dorico Pro 6.2.30.
  • Reset Dorico preferences.
  • Option key is correctly recognized because Option + Drag still duplicates items normally.
  • Mouse Keys accessibility is disabled.
  • Tried changing the “Enable mouse editing of pitch and rhythmic position” preference (no change).
  • The problem occurs only in Dorico 6.

Important observation

The exact same operation still works correctly in Dorico 5 on the same Mac, with the same keyboard and the same Apple Magic Mouse.

This strongly suggests either:

  • a regression in Dorico 6 exposed by macOS Tahoe 26.5.2, or
  • a change in macOS that affects only Dorico 6’s handling of Option + Click.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you.

I’m afraid I’ve not experienced this, and this is typically the kind of thing that are beta tested before release, I suppose…

Is it possible that the system is set in a way that it “steals” option-click (or alt-click)?

I don’t know the alt-drag feature, are you sure it’s another duplicate feature? Or maybe you’re using the mouse to input stuff on the staff (I don’t)?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I use either the computer keyboard (A, B, C, etc.) or a MIDI keyboard.

I tested it with Dorico 5 and I have no problem at all.

However, with Dorico 6, everything worked perfectly before the latest macOS Tahoe 26.5.2 update. Under Tahoe 26.5.1, there was no issue, but since updating to 26.5.2, the Option-click duplicate function no longer works.

I wasn’t aware of the Alt-drag feature—ChatGPT suggested that I try it. However, I find the Alt-click function extremely useful, and I use it very frequently.

Kind regards,

F. Pierrat

Well, I’m kind of baffled: alt-drag does not work (and should not, actually. It has never been a feature described in any version history and is probably a ChatGPT hallucination). And alt-click does work as expected here (and has always worked, as far as I can remember).

You might need to send the diagnostic files in order for someone from the Team to understand why it does not work on your system.

I use some special powers I’ve been granted with to translate the title of this thread — as you might have noticed, this is an English-speaking forum. Feel free to come and chat in French in the FB group called “Groupe des utilisateurs francophones de Dorico” I created years ago
