Dear Team,
There’s an option for that double barline with a key signature change. But something that we see quite often (and I always deal with it manually, shift-B, ||) is that double barline before a meter change. Could this be added?
Thanks in advance!
This is quite old-fashioned but I have seen it plenty of times.
Yup. I was copying a cycle de mélodies from Poulenc (not that old) and every time signature change has that double barline.
Ahah … when I stopped thinking about what I considered old-fashioned I realised it was the 1970s … sorry!
And I (an old fashioned man) use it always…
In case a performer can miss the change
So I take it as « it’s a legit request »
I was going to say (but waited) I think I have seen this only in French scores. For research purposes, does anyone have any non-French examples?
I have it in the majority of my scores: French, German, Italian.
But… as I said, I’m old fashioned…
The request may be legitimate, but it’s immediate to realize…
I was just looking for this option, which is the default in Finale, for “adding a double barline when changing time signatures,” as I am planning to switch from Finale to Dorico.
I’m not a professional engraver, but I was a little surprised to hear that it’s considered an old notation style. The reason is that in the Japanese music publishing industry, it’s probably customary to insert a double barline when changing time signatures.
It’s not about classical music. In pop and rock music, for example, I found that the band score for DREAM THEATER - Pull Me Under includes a double barline when changing time signatures during the first guitar solo section.
I’ve made a note of this request, and you can consider it on our backlog for future implementation. I can’t say when it will be implemented, however.
