Option to automatically jump to next note after punctuation mark, when entering lyrics

I do a lot of lyrics typing and I never came across a situation where after a punctuation mark I did not have to use the space bar.

So: Please add the option in the preferences (note input) to move automatically to the next note after typing a punctuation mark.
It would save me some time and it feels more in line with the behaviour when typing a hyphen.

Thank you.

It would make it harder to have a whole sentence under one long note. Currently, you can glue many words together by using non-breaking spaces. You’d also need non-breaking commas, periods, semicolons, question marks and what not…

Yes, as Pjotr points out, something like: “O Lord, open thou our lips.” is often on one note.
What about a full stop inside a quote mark? “Help.”

One thing I’ve learned from this forum is that there’s always someone who wants to do the thing you think no one would want to do. :rofl:

You can bet that if they added this, someone would complain at the lack of flexibility – so you’d need an option to enable/disable in the Preferences; which adds to the complexity and ease of use.

I guess even for everyday use " and ’ would need to be excluded.

I do wonder quite how much of a timesaver this would be, given that in word processors, web browsers and everywhere else that isn’t lyric input, we’re presumably still hardwired to type Space after punctuation marks.

That is why it should be an option, not hard coded.

I agree. I was thinking of comma, period, semi colon and colon only.
The point for me is::
when I type the last character of the first word, how does the program know that I want to move to the next note? That is what the space bar is for.
When I finish a word with a comma, it is perfectly clear that I want to move to the next note, so why give the superfluous comman (space bar)?
Half of the times (at least) I get the feeling that I am do8ing something wrong, because it is illogiocal. That is what is slowintg me down.
Somehow I am not hardwired, apparently. :wink:
