I’ve just noticed that if I select a pedal indication as well as the notes in a measure on one staff of a piano piece, Dorico adds a complete grand staff as an ossia. If I deselect the pedal mark, I get a single staff.
Is this because a pedal indication affects both staves?
Even though I don’t write for piano I always get curious from this sort of stuff, so I started experimenting. I think the pedal indication is actually only connected to the top staff.
Creating an ossia while only selecting the Ped. marking in the above example gave me a 1-staff, treble clef ossia. Selecting notes in the top staff together with the Ped. marking gave me the same result.
Only when I selected something in the bass staff along with the Ped. marking did I get a grand staff ossia. So I’d guess the Ped. markings are actually connected to the top staff only.
Thank you, Zalde. That’s a better theory. If you are correct, I am surprised that the pedal indications are not attached to the lower staff since they are closest to the lower staff and the pedal is often used to hold bass notes.
