Can this kind of cue be done somehow with an ossia in a part while maintaining a dynamic link to the score?
After you have created the ossia staff, try clicking in the ossia staff then press shift-U (for cues) and choose the part to show there as a cue. To see if it maintains a dynamic link to the score, temporarily change a note or two in the cued player (Viola in your example) and see if the cue in the ossia staff reflects that change.
Thank you very much for the email. I have inserted cues successfully, but they show both the cue notes and also the rests for the instrumental part into which I have put the ossia. Do you know of a way to makes those rests go away, since I do not need them in this context?
Select the measures and do Edit > Remove Rests.
Thank you, but remove rests does not seem to work on the ossia staff that has the cue in it.
See if this works:
Select the cue.
Shorten it at both ends so that it starts with the first note and finishes with the last note which you want in the cue ie so it does not have any rests before or after.
While it is still selected, open the Properties panel and enable Hide rest around cue.
Sorry – you’re right that it doesn’t work out of the box, but you can make it work.
Drag the ‘+1 staff’ signpost for the ossia so that the ossia starts one bar before the cue.
Select the rest in the first bar of the ossia, and activate the Ends Voice property. The rests under the cue disappear.
Drag the signpost back to the start of the cue. The rests under the cue remain hidden.
