OT: Random chord generator for ear training?

Hey forum,

Here’s an off-topic question for you fine folks: My son is preparing for music college and is looking for ear training help.
Is there a tool out there that will create random chord sequences to improvise over, maybe holding/playing each chord for a little while, then moving to the next?
No identification of the chord or quizzing necessary, just basically a randomized playalong or even a simple pad?

Thanks for your help,
Benji

It’s probably over-kill, but Band in A Box comes to mind. It can create random chord progressions in a variety of (mostly jazz, country and pop) styles.

You could take a look at Scaler3

Thx guys, will investigate!
I’ll also take a look at Cubase’s chord pads, never used them before…

Check out Aurelia.

Dan, thx! Do you happen to know how Aurelia compares to EarMaster? We use EarMaster, which I find fabulous, but it’s so close in just not having that function…:wink:

Alright, thx everybody for thinking along… I found my solution:
Since it’s always better to use software you already own , I used EarMaster with some sensible settings for repeating chord identification questions (and not waiting for answers…), fed the output into an HSO ensemble pad with slow attack and release times, and behold, it worked! It is really a lot of fun, too…

Cheers,
Benji
