Ottava line: issues with '8' in plain text

Due to specific requirements in the publisher’s house style, I need to use plain text ‘8’ for ottava lines. This required changing the symbols in Engrave > Library > Music Symbols.

While that works well, continuation lines with parentheses give this:

I may try to change the glyphs for the parentheses too, but will that solve the offset issue? One cannot set ottava lines to not ‘avoid collisions’ so the only way out I see for now is to not use parentheses in the continuation, but … is there a proper way?

I needed to reduce the octave symbols to 80% of their sizes and still use parentheses on the continuation. But this is what I am getting: [image]

I think that what we will look to do in future is consider adding a dedicated font style for octave lines, so that you can set the size of the glyphs it chooses to use by editing the size of that font, rather than by trying to scale the individual entries in the Music Symbols editor. Sorry for the inconvenience!

What you could do is consider scaling down the octave line via the Custom scale property and compensating for that by adjusting the line thickness, gap length and dash length in Engraving Options.

… but I am not allowed to change the gap and dash length globally for the octave lines.

I tried with the Custom scale property for this specific instance of the line and nothing changed. Not really sure I understand what should be done (I’ve read the other threads…).

You could create a line (but playback will be wrong)
