Output levels

Hi guys!

My problem is in cubase my master level isn’t clipping/going into the red but on my soundcard (focusrite 2-4 4th edition) the level is always really high and sometimes distorts. i dont want to keep lowering my master volume in cubase as this seems to be the only way to lower the soundclouds level so its not in the red. Am i missing somethingg fundemental?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,
are you sure the Stereo Out in Cubase is not clipping? The screenshot just shows one track.
Do you use the Control Room?
Can you put Supervision or any other plugin at the end of your 2-bus inserts and check the level?
Please be more specific about your routing, especially with regard to your outputs/control room.

If your interface uses focusrite control make sure the playback channel faders are at unity gain. Otherwise can you explain how exactly you see the interface is “in the red”?

hey! thanks for replying guys! the master level definitely isnt clipping. I don’t use any plugins on the master out or use control room (would this help?). I’m not too techincally minded and dont touch the routing in cubase 13

Grim - Focusright control room is at unity. see pic for interface in red

You mean the red around the volume knob?

That’s the level of the interface output so it will simply go up as you increase the volume, it’s not telling you the input level coming from Cubase is too loud.
