Overwriten notes when record real-time midi

How to record real-time and not overwrite? I want to add.

use Cubase

A loop recording feature in Dorico with different modes is something which quite a few would find useful – indeed even a looped playback but I suspect it’s not imminent. Being able to overdub controller data would also be nice but we’re really getting more in the realm of the DAW and as things stand, there is still a significant gap though it gets ever narrower.

If you engage chord mode (shortcut Q) before you start recording, the notes that you record will be merged with the existing notes in the same voice.

good point. Daniel – I forgot about that one

I am trying to real-time record with keyboard into Dorico but it keeps playing back the material I’ve previously recorded whilst I’m trying to record over it. I am not in chord mode. Does anyone know how to replace what you’ve recorded as you play over it?

Cheers! Andy

There’s no setting for this at the moment, I’m afraid, Andy. You’ll need to delete the music you want to overwrite before you start recording.

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier as I’m on holiday just now but Daniel has answered your question, I think. As discussed earlier, Dorico doesn’t have the range of input methods of Cubase as yet. It’s something quite a few of us would like to see, together with looped recording but obviously there are a lot of things clamouring for attention and the team can’t do everything at once, much as I’m sure they’d love to!

thanks Daniel. Bummer!
Oh well, may be in a future update?

Cheers! Andy

Thanks David!

Hi Daniel,

I’m still using Finale anyway and then importing xml into Dorico to use it’s wonderful layout and editing tools, so perhaps Dorico will have this in a few years time. I still have hundreds or works and arrangements to edit and get ready for publishing so I don’t need to compose yet more stuff. I am absolutely loving the editing and layout/engraving tools in Dorico. It’s a clever and powerful program, thanks to you all.
Cheers! Andy
