Sorry I can’t send a Dorico sample of this issue, but if I send the document it will show up one way or the other and not both. In page galley I have 2 dotted half notes tied together with a cresc. marking under both measures (3/4 meter). When I swicth to Page View the cresc. in only under the second measure (which is what I want). Why the difference between Page View and Galley View?
If you send the project we can switch between Page view and Galley view ourself
Difficult to tell without the project file.
Here more info on how to cut down your project:
O.K. I am actually running into 2 issues on this same page. Issue #1 is that in Galley View you will notice the both measures 10 and 11 have a decresc. in the upper voices. When I swicth to Page view the decresc. is only under m. 11 (which is what I want). Why the difference?
Secondly, Refer to m. 2 in Trumpet. Notice that last 4 notes are beamed together. I want the last eighth note to stand alone, but when I select the last 8th note and right click and select “split beam” it actually now connects ALL the notes in that measure instead of breaking the beam on the last note.

Regarding the dynamics: you need to differentiate between graphic changes and semantic changes.
When you move, lengthen, or adjust hairpins in Write mode, that’s a semantic change. The actual location of the attachment points is different. The dynamic actually begins and ends at a different place (which is also reflected in Playback, by the way)
When you move, lengthen, or adjust hairpins in Engrave mode, you are making no semantic changes, only modify its appearance. Try it, and you’ll see the attachment lines don’t move.
You need to set the hairpins properly in Write mode, so they start and end at the correct rhythmic location.
This is a really nice and clear explanation @dan_kreider !
For the beaming, you need to look at Notation Options and set your defaults there for starters.
Look at Beam Grouping>Beams and Rests, and Beam Grouping>SImple time signatures without a half-bar.
If you need to force an un-beamed note, In this case you have to do it twice, since your Notation Option settings are different. Select the last note, j, “Make Unbeamed.”
But if you fix your Notation Options, you shouldn’t need to do this.
Adding to the useful suggestion above, as an alternative if you want to make a local adjustment, I suggest you first reset the (manual) beaming on that bar, and then your split beam will work:
Christian,
Thanks so much for explaining the beaming issue. The video clip was most helpful. Have a great day.
Dan,
Thanks so much for the excellent detail on the beaming issue. Your video illustration was very beneficial. Thanks again.
Thanks for the info. on the hairpins. Your explanation made sense.
