The printed output looks stellar, with one small exception. In vocal parts, the bar numbers are placed below the staff, and to my eye this can look a little untidy when they are in close proximity to the lyrics, particularly when the distance from the staff changes to avoid collisions with ties or slurs, for example:
I’d like to experiment with placing the bar numbers above the staff, but only in the vocal parts.
I’ve looked in Library → Paragraph Styles, but at first glance these appear to be global settings. In the template there are three styles defined, presumably by the developers at Scoring Express: Bar number (parts), Bar number (PV and PC), and Bar numbers (score). As an aside, I’m unsure what “PV and PC” refers to… I’ll have to check the Scoring Express manual.
Am I correct in thinking that I would need to define another paragraph style - Bar numbers (vocal parts) - to achieve the desired result (i.e., bar numbers above the staff), or is there another approach that I should explore first? I am copying in @pianoleo, as I believe he is the creator of the Scoring Express templates.
There are a lot of Layout Options (i.e. per-layout) for bar numbers. Select the Vocal Part layout in the right column of Layout Options and set it as you want:
Where can I find the dialog you mention? I can’t seem to find any instrument-specific options under Engraving Options → Bar Numbers or Library → Paragraph Styles → Bar Numbers.
Apologies if I’m missing something that is blindingly obvious to everyone else!
Incidentally, PV and PC refer to the Piano/Vocal and Piano/Conductor layouts. Both those and the Bar numbers (parts) are intentionally narrowed to keep them unintrusive. The Bar number (PV and PC) paragraph style is slightly less narrow than the Bar number (parts) style, as it’s expected to be used above the stave rather than below. As Charles has already said, the above/below bit is set within Layout Options.
