Parallel Compression channel with "phase" issues

While working with S1 or Logic, it was very common for me to duplicate a channel (vocal, for example), insert a “heavy” compressor and saturation for parallel processing. Always with very good results. I’ve tried the same in Cubase Pro 13 (newbie here) and I got a weird sound such as a “phasey” sound… Should I follow a different way in Cubase than I used to do in S1 and Logic?

Thanks,

In general this should work the same as in S1 or Logic. What compressor are you using? Some third party plugins don’t always report their latency correctly to the host, which might result in phasing.

I was using the Blitzer from SSL (sometimes I use a version of 1176, such as the Waves CLA-76).

This sound weird, I usually parallel very complex chains with compressors and EQs, and Cubase manges everything flawlessly. Sometimes the parallel return it’s phasey, but it depends by the plugins/filters used. In this case you start flipping the phase on the return channel and listen to how does it sound like

Anyhow, start testing the parallel channel with all the plugins disabled, then enable the step by step the plugins you have in the chain. Check also the stock channel EQ and pre filters
