Hello All
I’ve got a three line lead sheet that I’m trying to have a concert layout and a B Flat layout. For some reason, when I transpose the three lines using Clef and Transposition Overrides the first two are fine, but Line III ends up as “III in B Flat”. See the screenshot for my meaning here.
I don’t need to have this line labelled as B Flat, as the whole layout chart is supposed to be in B Flat, and the other two lines are fine.
Curious if anyone out there has any insight into this problem. Thanks!
What instruments did you rename to I / II / III ?
Thanks for this. I went into the instruments and changed I/II/III to voice, and it cleared it up.
For future reference: what might you suggest as the best “generic” instrument to use for this kind of lead sheet-type piece? By this I mean an instrument that doesn’t transpose, is in treble clef, doesn’t use two staves, get automatically grouped, that sort of thing. On Finale I would usually use Flute in C, and maybe the same will do here in Dorico. I’m not worried about playback sound too much, I just want the simplest baseline instrument to spell out a melody that I can transpose to B flat, E Flat, etc. with different layouts.
Thanks for the help!
Have a look at the Sketch instrument category. There’s one in there called Treble Staff, which is about as neutral as they come. By default it gets a piano sound. But a flute, oboe or violin would work fine too.
