Hello! I’m using Dorico 5. I’m trying to generate parts from this attached score and having a lot of trouble with the 2nd violin and double bass part. I suspect the issue has to do with employing non-traditional notation. Both of those parts use sound effects in the 4th movement (or 4th flow). When I generate the parts from the score, I only see the “sound effects.” For example, I only see the hand clapping in the 2nd violin part but I’m not getting any of the violin playing. Assistance would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!
In the fourth flow, the instrument changes between the violin and percussion staff seem to work as expected, showing all the notes for both instruments. Similar story for the DB. In the first three flows, neither Violin II nor DB have any notes at all, but that’s also the case in the full score so in that sense the parts seem to be perfectly accurate.
That said, I suspect there should be notes for those instruments in the first three flows as well, but you must have inadvertently deleted them, perhaps in the process of adding the percussion staves. How this may have happened, I’m not sure. As it stands, I’m afraid those notes simply do not exist in this file anymore. Do you have a backup?
Yes, I have a back up of each movement as an individual file. The strange thing here is that all the parts are available in the score. I suspect that the issue might be this:
I changed the “instrument” for the 4th movement for the bass and violin II to a solo instrument rather than a section so I could enable multiple instruments (the string instrument and percussion). Is there a work around so that I can get the entire piece in one file or must I have the 4th movement as a separate file and compile PDF files manually for distrubution?
The Violin II and DB staves are simply empty throughout the first three movements right now, and the parts reflect that.
You say the movements started out as individual files; did you then use the Import Flows function perhaps? And can you recall your precise order of operations there, combined with the change from section to solo players and the addition of the percussion instruments?
You can definitely keep everything in one file, no workarounds necessary. Since you’re not using the divisi function, I think it’s probably best to make all the players Solo players instead of sections, so the auto-numbering can do its job. When Importing Flows it’s crucial that the players precisely match (including whether they are sections or soloists) but if it creates redundant players you can always just copy & paste the music over by hand. You could even do just that: simply open the first three movements’ files one by one alongside the combined score, and copy & paste the Violin II and bass parts over manually.
All that said I’m still not sure how those other players and/or their music could have just vanished — are you sure you didn’t manually delete something in Setup mode?
