Pasting non-Latin characters text into the Lyric popover does not split syllable

When text is pasted into the Lyrics pop-up in non-Latin characters, the text will not be split up on a syllable-by-syllable basis.
This also happens with Chinese characters. (Sorry, I have not learned Japanese, so I could not test it.) It worked until Dorico 4… This is strange. Can it be fixed?

The behaviour you describe is the expected behaviour. Dorico explicitly does not try to paste lyrics containing Chinese, Korean or Japanese characters syllable by syllable.

Is there any particular reason for this? I think that this non-syllabising behaviour is not expected by most users because the way in which Latin character-based text is syllabised by pasting is a time-saving feature.

Yes, the reason is that we cannot make safe assumptions about the character encoding used for the text. With Latin text, it’s reasonably safe to assume certain things about the encoding of the material on the clipboard, but with more complex scripts, each character could be encoded either using 8-bit, 16-bit or even 32-bit encoding, and we can’t be sure about it.

Thanks for letting me know. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that the previous version of Dorico had Korean and Chinese syllabification when pasting text. I miss it, but I understand the developers’ point of view.

If it did work, it was only by chance. We explicitly disable this behaviour if we are able to detect any CJK characters in the text on the clipboard.
