PC & Mac Cross platform compatibility WL12 Pro?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone here runs both PC and Mac versions of WL12, and if you are able to load projects with plugin chains that were PC VST to AU Mac?
Im a PC user since 2006, but I need a new travel setup, and the M4 Macbook pros seem to make more sense, hardware wise

WaveLab uses only VST on Mac and not AU.
As soon as you have the same plugins on Windows and Mac, there is normally no problem.

Pursuant to that point, for the rare AU-only requirements I have for Mac, I just use Metaplugin or Blue Cat Patchwork instead. Not only can the BC Patchwork VST3 host load AU, it can load VSTs and even x86 build plugins while still maintaining Native Mode operation in MacOs (e.g. no Rosetta).

Here’s BC in my master chain with iZotope’s AU-based hook for Trash. Ironically, “Hook for Trash” was the name of my college band, but I digress:

This works surprising well, while also opening up some really nice sound design opportunities in general.

Thanks for the reply PG.

So no issues loading a PC project or Montage w VST plugs to Mac or vice versa?

Be mindful of VST2 vs. VST3 plugins though.

I don’t know anything about Windows but on new M-series Macs, you can’t run VST2 plugins in WaveLab unless you run WaveLab in Rosetta Mode which to my understanding will not be fully utilizing the power of the M-series chip. It’s not hard to launch WaveLab in Rosetta mode, but it does feel like a power/speed compromise.

I would try to always use VST3 versions of plugins so that they’re more easily cross-platform compatible if you want to use a Mac in full Apple Silicon mode.

You make sure that the files that you are using in the audio montage are relative to the audio montage. If not, they can’t be found.

thanks, I use Patchwork as well, great plug!

Agreed 100%. These are secret weapons in any plugin arsenal. Buy them. Use them to save your neck when needed. :+1:

(Of the two, my favorite is Metaplugin, but they are both great.)
