Percussion Labels

Hi Dorico Team,

I wanted to ask here since I didn’t see any other post really asking for this specifically… but I’m curious if I’m missing something here.

I have a percussion group I would like to have simply named Percussion I, II, III, etc. However, changing the names and selecting the show player names only solves a portion of the problem I have: Dorico doesn’t auto-number/group the labels. I’ve tried working around this by putting a “Percussion Sketch” player in as the first instrument, but it does not “group” them automatically, so the numbering happens, but the grouping I’m looking for does not (pic 1-2).

I want the percussion to show like, for example, the horns do (pic 3). I have the Horns label, then the consequent numbering without added “Horn” labels on each staff. Dorico does this automatically for listed instruments of the same name in sequence (like the horns), but not here for the percussion staves…

If I go in, and change the player names to “Percussion I” and then the others to only “II” and “III”, I can manage to get the “look” of it (below), but is it possible to get the desired look without doing that?

There’s no way to achieve that kind of staff labelling automatically at present. It relies on the automatic numbering of instruments, and Dorico doesn’t currently do that for identically-named players that are showing their names in the music. It’s something we could add in future, but it’s not possible at the moment, I’m afraid.
