Percussion maps: GASE + Simon Phillips

Hi everyone,

Update to the issue detailed below. If I add a new kit following the instructions provided with the Simon Phillips playback template, problems persist: rim shots work, but rolls do not. In any case, I cannot find a way to import a kit to an existing player. Is this possible? I thought it might be possible to copy and past music from the old to the new kit, but the notes do not remain in the same places :frowning: Help, please!

I’m having some trouble getting the Simon Phillips Jazz Drums to work correctly with the NP+GASE playback template I’ve created, and I could really use some help.

I’ve successfully loaded a kit in Groove Agent and can see that various elements of the drum kit are being triggered. However, some articulations, like rim shots and rolls, aren’t playing back correctly. For example, according to the Percussion Map for Simon Phillips, the rim shot is assigned to E2, but Dorico is transmitting D2 instead. This mismatch is likely causing the playback issues.

I’ve loaded the appropriate Percussion Map (as shown in the screenshot below), but I haven’t assigned an Expression Map. I’m not sure if one is required in this context, but I wonder if the lack of it is why the correct articulations aren’t triggering. The ReadMe included with Simon Phillips states:

The default drum kits in Dorico only include some of the techniques that are used by the Groove Agent patterns. To make sure you can use all the techniques, when you add your drum kit to your project use the normal Add Player (Shift-P) option but choose Import Kit… and then import the simon phillips jazz kit.doricolib file from the kit definition folder.

In Dorico 6, with a Player already added, I cannot find the command Import Kit - nothing is returned in the Jump Bar for this.

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Roy
