I have an issue that has been bothering me often enough I figured Id put it down here. VST not connecting to MIDI is a common issue, but historically its for new users. Ive been using CUBASE/Nuendo for around 20 years and I can’t figure this out.
I will sometimes put up a VST inst track (which i tend to use over racks for less clutter) and usually it functions as it should. Sometimes though, usually when I come back to a session or just later in my work flow an instrument will just stop recognizing the midi on its own track. Strangely I can enable record and it will respond to a direct midi instrument input. I can even click on a midi note in the piano roll on the track and it will sound, it just won’t sound while its playing. I can also record midi in to this track and I will hear it monitoring on the through. but as soon as i play it back it again won’t sound.
My quick solution has been to open another midi track, throw the midi data on to it and then route it back to the instrument. that works fine. this has happened with a variety of instruments. My first thought was it has something to do with MIDI through being enabled. But this setting has always been checked. (also “record enable allows midi through”) Is there some setting on some midi tracks that I assume I do not know about, likely added years ago and I never caught it? Hopefully its something simple. I have definitely checked on what channels all the midi in question is transmitting on, because that would be an easy to miss thing. This sometimes happens, and sometimes does not and not settings are changed. on cubase 14 currently
Just seeing if anyone has had this issue and figured it out
thanks
