I prefer to use text for the pedal start in piano music rather than the “ornate” symbol.
However, I’m finding the start position of the ped. text is too far to the right with the Ped text aligned with the left edge of the notehead. I’d rather have the entire text centered in relation to the notehead.
I can’t find an option for this, only one for the “ornate” option.
Is there one?
Do I have to manually adjust each and every pedal text in a score using Engrave mode?
I’d much rather set a default placement for all pedal text start, and if the need arises, adjust manually the rare cases where such is needed.
Since the ornate pedal mark gives you the option to adjust the horizontal position but you want to use pedal text instead, what if you open the Edit Music Symbol dialog and replace the Pedal mark glyph with the text “Ped.” using the Pedal Line Font style?

that’s an idea, thanks.
I’d rather not do anything too “destructive” within Dorico, like changing a music symbol from its default, I never know when I MIGHT need the glyph rather than text for pedals.
But I’ll look into it, it’s a good option. Though honestly, I’d rather have the option to set the horizontal offset of the text like I can with the glyph. It seems a minor overlook on the part of the dev. team.
Unless you click on the “Save as Default” star in the Edit Music Symbol dialog, this change will only affect the current project.
