Is there a way to include text (“ad lib.”) in addition to the ‘Ped’ marking for piano pedal markings?
At the moment I have to use text and move it into place in Engrave mode, which works OK but am hoping for a better solution.

I would think the problem would more likely be stopping players from adding pedal, ad lib. Are you worried that your pedal marking are so strict in other parts of the piece that they would inhibit players’ use of the pedal?

Yes that could certainly work, although If there are two bars ‘con ped.’ then subsequently no pedalling required, do you have a suggestion as to how to cancel the ‘con ped.’ mark?
The Italian would be senza ped. That should be clear enough.
It would be very, very useful to have a prefix and suffix option for pedal glyphs. I often have to write “Ped. as needed” with the glyph. It would be amazing to do that and other variants like “con Ped.” without the need for manually placing text or editing music symbols.
