Piano reduction - staff labels and margins

Dear all,

when creating a vocal score (reduction from voices & orchestra to voice & piano, for example) I am usually asked to have the first system show “Piano” (or “Klavier”) as a full staff label and then nothing when the staff labels are abbreviated.

To achieve this I double-click on the staff label and replace the short name with a space. The result is this:

While not bad per se, the publisher would like to have the systemic barline coincident with the margin and the brace outside of it. In Sibelius I would set the ‘no name’ page margin to ‘0’ and move on to more amusing tasks but here in Dorico I am a bit at a loss.

Is there a way to achieve this?

For context, vocal lines will show abbreviated names throughout.

Thanks!

Check these options under Library->Layout Options->Staves and Systems.
Adjust the indent to your liking.

Thank you, Jesper, but it is not working for me because you are setting staff labels to ‘None’ for subsequent systems when I mentioned that, from the second system onwards, the piano needs ‘no label’ and the singers need the ‘short label’.

On your end, please try to add a few singers; then set the subsequent systems to ‘Abbreviated’, then change the short name of the piano player to just a single space (if you erase it Dorico replaces it with the full name), and you will most likely see that you get to my same dead end.

Surely this would be affected by the abbreviated labels for the singers, which would need to be outside the margin?

Like this?

Here, the abbreviated staff label of the piano is a space, and in the second system, staff labels are set to “None” in the properties:
