How can a piano-part with 4 staves be created? In the Setup Mode the instrument is limited to 3 staves.
There are indeed (rare) instances of piano staves with 4 staves! Apart from that I need a particell-system with 4 staves justs for sketches - how can that be accomplished?
I have a few works, only one of which is in Dorico, since the others are much older, but as pointed out it’s no big deal. In the recent work that was done in Dorico, I added each staff later on as needed, as @Alberto_Maria correctly suggested.
The earlier works were done in Finale, and I’m very sure I just added staves from the very beginning beyond the default two staves. I also have a work for French horn and piano (done a few years ago in Finale) that goes in the opposite direction and only has a single staff for the piano. So regardless of the program, it’s no big deal to add or remove a staff from a piano part. Good luck!
OK, thank you. I had tried to create the staves in Setup mode where the number of staves is limited. I think it would be helpful if the developers could synchronize the options there i.e. to extend the limitations. And/or to offer an option for sketch-scores/particellos.
Yes! It would be very helpful to be able to set up more than 3 staves from the beginning. There are pieces, such as Milton Babbitt’s Post-Partitions which use 4-staves for piano from start to finish, and (more particular for me) analytical charts that use four-stave instruments to present analyses. It seems odd that something that can be set up throughout the score cannot be set up as an instrument. (Or if you don’t plan on changing, why not make it a button group [1 | 2 | 3] since 0 also seems not to be allowed).
