Piccolo (doubling Fl. 1)?

In setup mode, using the Orchestral > Modern template, I’m altering the names of the instruments, starting at the top. After adding Flute as doubler, it’s calling that player Piccolo + Flute 1, and the actual Flute 1 is now Flute 2.

I can’t seem to fix this.

Hi @MusiComPublishing Click in menu Setup → Reset Instrument names and all will be good.

I am curious why and how you are altering them? Let Dorico handle automatic the naming, I suggest…

Thanks. I did that, but this is what I’m getting:

I want them to be all caps, and to use American abbreviation standards, but I’m obviously confused about something.

Yes, this is correct: Dorico (re)numbers the instruments if there are more than one of the same kind, also if in another player. What you would desire they where named exactly?

Thanks.

Player 1 — Piccolo + Flute 3
Player 2 — Flute 1
Player 3 — Flute 2

I see. For this I suggest to make the setup as in the left side of the picture , and then use the function Use Custom Player Order in the Layout Options, as on the right of the picture:

The question of Flute 3 doubling Piccolo v Piccolo doubling Flute 3 has been discussed on a number of threads.

Okay. I’ll try that out. Thanks!
