Pick-up notes

how do you enter pick up note

Do you mean create a pickup bar, or do you have the bar in place already?

I see you have specified Dorico v3.5, the Help I accessed had the v3.5 archived, but this should still work.

Hi @Roger_Dupuis , beyond the useful links posted here above by @arco , I made some time ago a detailed post about different scenarios about pick-up editing, in case you forgot to create a pick-up, using different insert mode scopes. Maybe it can be of some help:

EDIT: sorry, I have noticed that you use Dorico3.5, so maybe you don’t have insert mode scopes, which where probably added later in Dorico?.

Thank @Christian_R for the link. I don’t want to have to call him Manny.

@Roger_Dupuis
Well, Manny is a nice name, but Manny was the user I wrote the post for :slight_smile:

:rofl: Daniel, if I come someday to Sydney we have to drink a beer together! :slight_smile:
(sorry for the OT)

Is there any way to create a pick-up rest? I’m making a custom part for a pre-existing piece, and the piece begins with a pick-up eighth note in 6/8. Dorico won’t let me begin the composition with an eighth note rest. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I’m not sure what you mean here. If you have a piece in 6/8 with an eighth note pickup, the pickup will be displayed as a rest note by default.

Are you creating a new project file that just contains this part? Or are you adding a layout to an existing project?
