I am a new Dorico user, I recently made the move after Finale announced its sunset, and I can say that after working in Dorico for a bit I like working in this software.
However, I am struggling to get functioning playback sound. I have already worked through the playback troubleshooting video I found in another forum post; unfortunately, I am still not producing any playback sound. I suspect this might be an issue with Halion Sonic 7 as when I open the program there are no program instruments preloaded into the side slots, when I do this manually and try to play notes on the bottom keyboard I see the light meter light up like it’s registering sound however, sound is still not produced. I have found that this is an issue with the license that I run on Windows and the license I run on Mac. I have already checked my device set up and it seems like the output devices are correct. For the Windows license it is using the Steinburg built-in ASIO driver. I also believe that I have everything that I need related to Dorico correctly installed.
If there’s anything else I could check for troubleshooting please let me know and any input is greatly appreciated.
While you wait for a response, you could post the Diagnostics zip file (that you can create from the Dorico’s Help menu). This can help the Staff to diagnose the problem better.
Hi @Madeleine_Borodach-T ,
welocme to the forum and thanks for the data.
First thing I need to ask is, where do you want the sound to come out to. In previous runs it was set up to output ports “Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)” and in the last run it was “Speakers (PRO X Wireless Gam…)”.
And you can see metering flickering in the red output channel (right most channel) in Play mode when the faders are shown in the lower pane?
If that is true, then it must be a driver issue somehow, but we will find out, no worries.
Hi @Ulf ,
I would like to have the sound run through Speakers (Pro X Wireless Gam…), my wireless headset. Typically I’ve found that I don’t need to select my headset for general computer sound to run through the headset correctly, but when I selected it specifically for Dorico it did not make a difference sound-wise.
I don’t think I can see the meter flickering in the red output channel in play mode, but I can see the meter flicker when I open Halion Sonic 7. I have attached a screen capture to try and show it in more clarity.
Hi Madeleine, thanks very much for the video, it helps a lot.
So the flickering in HALion is just the MIDI input, but soundwise nothing comes out, because there is no sound patch loaded into HALion.
If you take that same piano piece and choose from the menu Play > Playback Template and apply any of the listed template there, does HALion Sonic then load a piano patch into the first slot in the HALion Sonic window?
If it does not, can you manually load a sound patch? On the right side of the HS window is the MediaBay area and it lists all the recognized libraries. If you double click on the HALion Sonic Selection icon, a whole list of sound patches shall get listed. If you double click any of them, does it get loaded into the selected slot on the left side?
