Please Fix This Years Old Issue....!

Every time I start Cubase, whether it be Cubase 12 through to 15, the first thing I see is this window, ‘Cubase Has Detected that new audio drivers are available…..’.

I only EVER want to use the Clarett 8Pre, and there are no new ‘others drivers’.

Why cannot Cubase simply use same audio device, by default, that I always use? No other DAW has this issue.

I know this seems like small point, but it’s been going on for YEARS and I have to go through this small extra step each time I start Cubase. I have had multiple new Macs over the years, and it’s always been an issue. Please fix it.

Hi,

This is not a generic issue. It must be related to the hardware (and its driver). It seems some hardware behaves so that it looks like a new one anytime Cubase starts.

Just for your test… Try to unplug all devices and keep just the Built-in Audio. Start Cubase. Select Built-in Audio. Quit Cubase and start it again. I’m certain this message wouldn’t appear.

Never had that on the three different audio interfaces I’ve had in recent years unless it booted the time before with it unplugged.

Is it a Thunderbolt device? Are the drivers/firmware updated?

I only get that if I turn off my audio interface before i completely quit Cubase, or I start Cubase before I turn on my audio interface.

Yes, it goes away if I remove my connected audio devices, which are connected via a Thunderbolt dock.

The dock has its own built in audio device, which I suspect is the issue.

No other DAW does this check for new audio hardware on start up. It’s typically set and forget. But Cubase if different.

I guess I’m in a small minority, if this is not more of an issue for users.

You’re not alone. Various circumstances can lead Cubase to think a new audio interface is available and, like you say, that can be annoying when you have no intention of changing your audio interface.

Yes it’s Thunderbolt, and all updated.

I thought I am the only one… I have a Caldigit TS3+ Dock and the same problem as you. It only happens in Cubase. In Logic or Live I never had this behavior.

There is a workaround that works for me (on macOS):

  1. Go to Library/Preferences in your home directory.
  2. Create the folder CA2ASIO if it does not exist.
  3. Create this file: ignoreaudiodevice.txt and add all audio devices that you want to hide and do not use line by line (The exact names you can find in the “Audio Midi Setup” App.

Below is the content of mine for reference, I just added everything that I never use, because the Digitakt sometimes also caused this popup appearing.
Since then, I never ever had this dialog popping up again, living in peace now

DELL U2713HM
CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 Audio 1
CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 Audio 2
CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 Audio (2)
Built-In Audio
MacBook Pro Microphone
MacBook Pro Speakers
Microsoft Teams Audio
Digitakt II

Thank you for this. I will give this a try and report back. It’s a small issue, but after years of doing this day in, day out, it’s now tedious.

I had this problem from maybe as long back as5, and up till 14, but 15 is fine now.

Thank you @michaelfuchs I have no idea how this works, BUT IT WORKS!

Thank you so much. If we ever meet, I’m buying you a beer!

Cheers

It is an old Jedi mind trick… I am not even kidding. “These are not the audio devices you are looking for”

Glat to hear it worked. Will keep the beer invitation in mind

Hello bro, I am a Windows user. Do you know how to perform your operations on Windows? I encountered the same problem on Windows, where every time I open Cubase15, a sound card driver selection pops up. However, I only have one Thunderbolt, which is directly connected to my computer

Hello bro, I am a Windows user. I have disabled other sound card drivers in the system, but the sound card selection interface still pops up. Can you tell me your specific operation method? Thank you

Unfortunately not, I cannot say much to Windows.

Sorry - I think you’re right and my method on Windows doesn’t work for ASIO. (At least not anymore). So I’ve deleted my post.

I’ve had the same issue and I think I might have a fix that seems to be working (at least for now) on a Mac, but might also work on a PC.

  1. Start Cubase

  2. Cubase → Studio → Studio Setup → Audio System
Ensure the Thunderbolt driver/Thunderbolt interface name is selected.

  3. Cubase → Studio → Studio Setup → Devices
Select interface. In the ports section on the right, make sure all ports are active

  4. Cubase → Studio → Audio Connections
Under the Outputs tab, ensure your Thunderbolt device is selected for “Stereo Out” device ports are assigned for the output channels (left and right). Save the preset.
    See screenshot below.

  1. Quit Cubase

  2. Restart computer

  3. Start Cubase

Hope this helps!
