Please Help : VSTL2 is crashing my project

Hi,

I did all the latest updates on the “Steinberg Download Assistent” (I don’t know if my problem has to do with it) and did the weekly update to 2.2.14.312

Since then I

  • can open my project an work with it.
  • trying to Save/SaveAs/SaveArchive closes VTSL after about 2 sec with no error message (see Windows event below)
  • and gives a vlprj file size of 0 Bytes.
  • I tried do return to an older Version by using one of the bak files : no success. The result is the same. I can open but not save changes.
  • saving single songs by using “Song Export” crashes, too. So I have no chance to move my work to an older project archive I created a backup.

How can I get back my project ?

Windows reports an application arror in the event log :

Hi,

… can we please get the full log-file? Just drag it to your answer

Thank you,
Michael.

(stupid question) where can I find the logs/crashdumps ?

No answer from here (PN too).

So I must assume I have to accept data loss, restart with an outdated backup and put my data in manually again - right ?

Would it be a recommendation to everyone to make a backup every hour to avoid such trouble ?
Disappointing.

Hi! First update to 2.2.15, maybe that has been fixed

Ctrl/Cmd + S

Hello, every time I open a project, I save the project with a new index, so fortunately I haven’t lost anything relevant yet, because this has already happened to me that the project and the backups were no longer found (0kb).
It may have something to do with the fact that I saved the project in the drive and switched off the computer too quickly.

That does VSTL everytime you save a project automatically. These files are saved in the same folder with the ending “.bak”.

… it is always crashing with ZENOLOGY.vst3. Can you please contact ROLAND and give them the DMP Files?

Sorry, we cannot help here at the moment,
Michael.

PS : Maybe the ZENOLOGY is outdated? Have you tried to update it?

I now updated to 2.2.15 as fkalmus recommended and did a VST Live “uninstall” and “install”.
Since that I seems to work, I now can open, modify and save my project.

(Zenology is showing me as “up to date”, as I’m looking for VST updates regulary nearly once a week, there was no update since some weeks. But I will send them the dmps, thanks).

I’m having bad feelings to keep on relying on VST Live.
I thought my project to be fine, then simply restarted my laptop some days later, did a VSTL update and (maybe?) with this (nearly) lost much work.
A desaster if that would have happened on a stage day.

and these bak files in my case saved my life.

… can you please keep me in the loop?

… I can understand you! I will try to contact Roland and give them one of your DMP files. Maybe they can give me a hint what’s going on.

Yes! Let’s try to catch your problem to get VST Live more stable and robust.

Thank you for your help;
Michael

The backups lost too.

So I gave VSTL another chance and updated to 2.2.16.

I can still not open my project I was using two weeks ago.
The program either stuck on preload or VSTL closes with no crashlog.

To be sure that my environment is not the reason (and in regard what all happened last week here) I completely factory reset my Laptop and did an absolute clean install of my mainly used VSTs (Roland Zenology, Arturia) and an absolute clean install of Steinberg VSTL 2.2.16 (yesterday rollout).

Result is the same.

I am absoluty desparated and meanwhile I am angry too.

The guys here force me to accept that I cannot use the results of days and weeks of work (and money) I put into this software. No help is given !

Weekly additional toy features cannot excuse breaking down the basic functions

This - for me - is not a game play.
Using this software in a production environment is absolutely not advisable.

I’m looking for a solution made by more responsible manfuactures.

…you should temporarily rename your vst folder(s) and test if it loads.

That’s rather unfair, we have offered every help we could already (and continue to do so).

Please first try to start w/o plugins to ensure none of those are the culprit.

If that doesn’t help, you may also send us your project file (just the .vlprj file, no audio/midi etc needed) so we can check if we can find something.
