How about repairing the Profile Manager to something useful in Steinberg Cubase 14 ?
Where it is possible to check what is saved in the profile?
Including user key commands (thanks by the way for taking away the possibility of importing or exporting user commands in the user command menu ).
Including (project) color profiles.
Including drum maps.
Including projects templates
Including presets from audio connections
Including presets from plug ins
Including track presets
…
So, making it possible to save EVERYTHING I might need when I work on another computer in ONE file.
Please.
I’ve moved between computers. Win to Mac, home workstation to studio space. Nuendo. Profile manager was useful.
I’ve also used it to make sure I get what I need after an update, or when I needed to roll back to an earlier version of the included settings.
So, no, it is not “plain useless”. Just because you don’t get all of what you want doesn’t make it useless.
As for your actual suggestions I’m probably in agreement on some of them and I think with others it’s probably worth thinking about just what they are and why and how they would be included. It might be a slightly bigger headache than you think to include things like track presets. I mean, we can remote control a helicopter on Mars so a lot is possible, I’m just saying that it might not be as easy as writing three lines of code and we’re done.
I’m not disagreeing that more can be included, just to be absolutely clear.
many of them can be saved in a project template except for audio connections…
Regarding key commands I don´t know who would want different key commands depending on the project, it´s insane.
That’s exactly what I do… Profiles are one of my most important and easy to handle update carriers actually. I agree, if other departments are involved it gets complicated.
Having said this, if various potential update candidates would find their way in let’s say three different files of a manageable size - that would be grant. Right now it can get quite messy, I agree.
@tenderboy
I guess something went wrong since there are a couple of things that can very easily go wrong. Since this problem pops up a lot I have posted a little How-To/Best Practice for Profiles and a couple of other presets that are used a lot. Maybe this helps?
Please have a look at
@noise Yeah, the file system is a rabbit hole. Been there… In a perfect world this would be a lot easier. However, it is what it is. I guess this is partly because of a very long legacy of implemented code. But that’s just a wild guess. By now I came up with a decent routine that works for me. Profiles are actually a center piece of this routine YMMV of course!
