In most products (e.g like “OpenOffice”) its possible to execute any sub menu by pressing alt and a succession of alpha-numeric keys.
Eg.
In Dorico there are many missing accelerators. So cannot do this unless one mixes (a series of) alt-alpha-numeric keys (a series of) with up/down arrow keys.
e.g.
There is a real case for using accelerators: : those activities that one might perform only a few times, and then maybe not again.
E.g (for me) In OpenOffice inserting many images into a concert programme note.
For such ‘occasional activities’ defining a hot key is far too much overhead. But if all menu items have an accelerator keys one just scribbles down a key list on a piece of paper.
And later, If one finds oneself making constant reference to the scrap of paper it’s time to define a real macro.
[I’ve added another related documentation feature request relating to hotkeys]
