I’m trying to tell Dorico 6 where to find a new plug-in. All of the info I can find says that the plug-in path is managed in Preferences. On the VST Plug-in tab, I don’t see any list. Only resets for the Audio Engine. What am I missing?
If I am not mistaken, Dorico 6 deals only with VST3,which is a standard that leaves no freedom about where it should be installed.
I put Spitifre Solo Strings on an external; dive. It includes VST3. How do I tell Dorico where to find it. Or must all plugins be on the same internal drive?
There’s a difference between the plug-in (vst3) and the folder where the sound files are stored. This is why, in your Spitfire vst3 player (whatever it is) you can specify where the files are stored (I’d suggest reading the manual about the Spitfire installation software)
Hi @Buer, that what you write and display holds only true for VST2 plug-ins. All VST3 plug-ins need to reside in a specified path as stated in the VST3 specification, therefore Dorico will find VST3 plug-ins automatically. Also, VST2 support in Dorico will cease in the future. Already on native Apple Silicon you can’t run VST2s in Dorico any more (But can still use wehn running in Rosetta mode, but also that will cease in the foreseeable future).
I just wanted to make this clear.
Ok, Ulf. I’m sorry, and stand corrected!
Thank you for clarifying!
No worries @Buer , it wasn’t wrong what you posted and I did not want to discourage you from posting, I just wanted to give that extra information.
Thank you for your contribution to the forum.
Hi, could not find plugin path settings anymore!? probably only possible in win11, but not in mac osx 26? will check it later on a win system
If you are on Mac with native Apple Silicon then you don’t find any VST2 related functionality any more, because VST2s are deprecated on Apple Silicon.
Okay, will check if it is the VST2 or VST3 version. but wonder, when it is the vst2 vers, why this mac osx didn’t show any hint … ?
What are the special limitations for VST3 in Dorico?
The OS does not care about execution of native code (that was built for the concrete hardware processor) or running in emulation mode (translating on the fly intel base code to Apple Silicon base coded.)
There are no limitations for VST3 plugs at all, except that they all must reside at some specific location on your harddrive. But you don’t need to know that location, the plug-in installers need to take care of it.
