Possible to hide rests in empty measures for part of score?

Is there any way to hide rests in empty measures for just a section of my score? I’d rather not go through the entire section and change every rest opacity to 0%…

Having spent some time searching I suspect the answer is no, but worth a try!

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum, @Perthecomposer!

I don’t believe there’s a way to do this in one pass. But in terms of changing the opacity to 0, keep in mind that you can drag select a bunch of contiguous bars with rests and set them all at once. You can also change one bar, select it, and then Alt/Opt+click it into place in other bars, which goes pretty quickly. Just make sure you click at the beginning of the destination measure, not on top of the existing bar rest.

(You could also use Edit > Remove Rests, but there are some potential drawbacks here in terms of spacing – the spacing of measures with rests removed collapses, unless (a) you’re in a score layout and other instruments have notes in those bars, or (b) you’re in a part layout and several empty bars get consolidated into a multi bar rest.)

Thanks @asherber! This is helpful! I figured those were the only options - but especially helpful to know about the drawbacks to Remove Rests. I suspect that would clobber all my hard-earned layout adjustments. Ok, opacity it is!

Thanks again!
