Now I would like to shift the p in only 9 to the 3rd beat without the pp in bar 8 shifting along. I’ve tried shift+alt+arrow, cmd+alt+arrow, ctr+alt+arrow but that didn’t do the trick.
The harpin in bar 8 should also be longer like in bars 6 and 7.
I entered it all manually there but that was very time-consuming. I suspect there should be a more practical approach.
Copying those dynamics to other staves was also not really easy. What is the best approach there?
What is the difference between dynamics “ungroup” and “unlink”.
Yeah, that’s one thing that is a bit cumbersome currently: When dynamics are grouped together (either because they were entered together, or because Dorico automatically grouped them because a cresc. started at the very same point where a “p” lived at the time, or because you grouped them manually), then you can’t move one component within the group individually.
You have to ungroup them first, then move the indivudual parts, then regroup them.
(A “group” is a horizontal, like in “p < f”. “Linking” is vertical, combining instruments across staves thet play eg. “f” at the same time.)
Linked means items at the same position in different staves are connected (e.g. dynamics in all four trumpet parts at beat one have forte written). If you change one of them then they all change.
Grouped means that consecutive dynamics in a single staff are connect and will, for example, align horizontally.
I often find it disruptive to my workflow that Dorico automatically groups and links dynamic markings – even in the very first phase of my composing process, when I’m usually just writing down a rough sketch to work out in detail later. But as far as I can tell, there’s no way to temporarily disable these functions – or am I missing something?
