Is it possible not to have a left systemic barline? without using a white rectangle that covers it, I mean. And what about the bracket right after the soprano clefs? Should I use a new music frame to fake this, or is there a more elegant solution? Just curious about it.
Thanks in advance!
Educate me, please! I understand the C-clef on the bottom line can be referred to as a soprano clef. But if it’s then followed by a regular G-clef, which one applies? Or is the initial clef only to define who should be singing?
Practically speaking, the C clefs are vestigial, but such clefs, sometimes also with indication of the original vocal range of the part, are common in some academic editions of older (often vocal) works.
The barbershop community, I expect, has a more contemporary, pragmatic view of such matters; and that’s probably for the best.
(Mike, do you ever have dealings with barbershop groups on the East Coast, Rochester NY, for example?)
No, nothing with east coast barbershop. Except for back in Baltimore, in the 90s, I sang with a non-society quartet, just for fun. We did sing the Anthem a few times in Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Pretty exciting, I must say!
I’ve helped a number of New Englanders with Finale, via Zoom. And I teach Finale at Harmony College NW, for barbershoppers and Sweet Adelines.
