I bring this up because I fear this will be one of those edge case bugs that is never addressed.
As mentioned in another thread, it takes a number of minutes to load my preferences and it no longer saves all the settings to my preferences any longer. I’ve provided screenshots that show approximation of time.
I reset the timer approximately after EACH CLICK.
When I click on the dropdown for the preferences, it will take around two minutes to open.
Pre-14.0.32 there were issues with Audio Connection/Control Room presets duplicating themselves each time you launched Nuendo (I believe that’s when it happened). This would manifest itself (in my case) in the Default preset appearing as multiple, distinct presets in the drop-down menu (meaning, Default listed “x” number of times before I cleared it out). I basically just created a duplicate “original” RAMPresets.xml file and would overnight the one that continually grew in size.
This was fixed in 14.0.32 for me. Though I didn’t experience slow-downs, the file did get bigger and bigger over time.
Correct. I tried to delete some file but that seemed to work temporarily with version 13. I’m unclear as to what the solution is now. I’m hoping/waiting for an official Steinberg solution.
I probably wouldn’t recommend that, but no, I just trimmed by file down and created a copy (.org) and then when I felt like it, I just replaced the bloated file with the original.
This probably won’t help but I don’t hang onto my preferences, and they are deleted at the end of each day and redone, at the beginning of the next day.
It’s true I don’t need to change much, but one thing I would love Steinberg to do, and that is, have exportable Studio Connections, since technically the only way to do this, is by saving a project. and opening it without activating, while another project is already open so you can then import a new “preset”.
Very roundabout but I can’t see Steinberg changing anything anytime soon because it works, as flaky as it can be at times.
It does work but just like imaging a new computer every day, to do it without a hitch would require IT skills.
I would guess that it would work better on MacOS but for me, it could be tied to my driver as well, which you gussed it, i need to re-install before every session.
Just to add, over the years Steinberg (the developers) have for whatever reason changed default settings, which need a “preference” to be altered, for example after the Lower Zone was implemented, Steinberg in their wisdom, made that the default for opening just about everything I am guessing but as I only need the Key Editor, I need to modify this setting.
If it is someone at Yamaha, making a decision (marketing), then that is a disappointment because there is another example, scaling note velocities, so who decided to swap out that preference, that every seasoned user would know? I don’t know, but what I do know is, we need a system to be able to override default preferences, that does not involve editing any preferences, unless users can see the XML file in question.
Now, to be fair, Steinberg make great use of the format and that is wonderful but where is the fine-grained control for those sufficiently skilled? It’s not like it’s source code we are talking about so how about this as a proposition: let’s go a bit deeper into the software so we can keep certain settings until the day we (or the computer) dies, and better yet how about giving us(ers) the cloud so we can at least start something new, in terms of features.
Cheers, all and all the best to Steinberg, with V14.
